Liverpool, UK
My mother, who was born in 1946, adored The Beatles along with the rest of the world. So, since I grew up with my ears being filled by their wonderful music, I was ecstatic to find myself in the very place they originated from. While of course there is Beatles memorabilia everywhere you turn, this is not the only awesome thing Liverpool has to offer. Unfortunately, we had very limited time here so we had to act fast. Here are some of the brilliant things this delightful town has to offer
Wander Albert Dock
Albert Dock has been open since 1846 after its five year construction period came to an end. It now accumulates nearly 4 million visitors annually and is the most popular place to visit in the UK besides London. This is partly thanks to its gorgeous glimmering water and watching the boats wobble calmly in the dock. It is also lined with bars and restaurants along with quick access to “The Beatles Story” and the “Tate Liverpool”. Oh, plus the iconic Yellow Submarine can be found here as well! This is an excellent way to kick off the start of your day in Liverpool and I promise you will not find yourself to be bored.
Revolution Bar
Since this is conveniently located on Albert Dock AND has an outstanding happy hour AND is completely unique, this bar is a must do. Its creative cocktails + fantastic food make it different from any other bar. We had such a great time we still fantasize about this place and wish it wasn’t located on the opposite end of the world. We ordered the fish and chips and it was out of this world! We have checked out an abundance of bars over the past few years and this one still stands out from the rest.
Cavern Club
Young or old, there is absolutely no way you could venture into this underground, dimly lit rock n’ roll cave and not have an blast! Live music consumes the entire club as people crowd around to hear it, covers of the Stones and Beatles bursting from the entertainers mouths. You fit right in with locals and travelers alike as you shout the lyrics along with everyone else, slurping your ice cold beer and marveling at the memorabilia of the best rock legends the world has ever seen. This intimate venue is known as the “birth place of The Beatles”! Laugh, sing, and CHEERS your neighbors just for the fact you get to share this experience. Keep it locked in your memory because the energy is just so special it’s nearly impossible to describe.
Rubber Soul
Just minutes from the Cavern Club is another favorite of ours- Rubber Soul! We strolled into this bar and were pleased to be greeted with a laid back atmosphere. This bar also played live music but it was 90’s alternative which we enjoyed since we knew most of the songs. We swayed back and forth with the locals as we crammed ourselves in like sardines, trying to remain in front of the performer. Everyone was extremely friendly and polite as they treated us as if we’ve lived in Liverpool our entire lives.
Bonus Section:
If you do find yourself with some spare time and it is the right season, they have pick your own fruit farms in Liverpool! I thought this sounded delightful, especially since the weather was cooler. I could already picture the bright, plump berries about to gush with their sweet juice just ripe enough to be plucked. We didn’t end up having enough time to go on this adventure so we hope you have that chance before you leave Liverpool to travel to your next destination.
The little lambanana’s! Or I guess not so little…since some of them are called Super Lambanana’s! These awesome sculptures look exactly how they sound- a cross between a lamb and a banana. We drove past one and by the time I got my camera ready he was already in our rear view. So, you have to locate these hybrid animals for me and capture a great photo! Just another cute thing to check out during your stay.
We hope you enjoyed this little guide! We were upset we didn’t have more time here, it truly was a trip to remember even though it was a short one. I really appreciate you reading! Be safe on your vacation and above all make memories you’ll cherish forever!
